ICFO is a social impact organization that harnesses the power of technology to offer financial services to organizations worldwide through a network of remote workers.

 

Founded both in Kenya and the United States in 2019 and operating a regional office in Nairobi, Kenya, ICFO is strategically placed to tap into a large talent pool in Kenya, which is a major technological hub in Africa. The country has a young population with 18-35 year olds comprising 25 percent of the population. Adult literacy rate is over 78% and internet penetration is above 90 percent.

 

These well-educated youth have professional qualifications and are technologically savvy but are unable to utilize their skills as the country’s unemployment rate stands at a high of 7.5 percent and 18 percent within this age group. This has made them engage in unethical practices such as online gambling and writing for “essay mills” to make a living.

 

ICFO provides a platform for these youth to earn a living by engaging in ethical work. In the long term, this will have a spiral effect as they will help their communities and improve living standards in the country. Our vision is to empower the youth to bring social and economic change.

ICFO’s business model is premised on the power of technology and cloud computing which we leverage with a growing population of young, educated and technologically savvy “digital natives” in Africa to provide outsourced accounting and other business support services to organizations worldwide.

 

We have developed the ICFO Code of Practice which we use to train graduate accountants on the job. Apart from professional skills, the Code imparts important skills such as multicultural communication and ethical practice which are essential in maintaining diverse clients. We support them to get certification in the emerging technologies in transactional accounting and reporting.
